European doctors welcome the Commission’s EU Framework for Climate Resilience as a step forward to tackle the serious consequences of climate change. CPME agrees that climate resilience by design needs to become standard practice in all EU policies. We will also be pleased to see the upcoming initiatives such as the European Heatwaves Plan.
However, the new EU Framework is not as ambitious as our joint call. For example, it does not ensure dedicated financing for health and climate resilience. Moreover, the proposed European Climate Resilience Law would not establish EU-wide, legally binding, and measurable targets that explicitly address health, as health organisations called for.
