Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)
CPME Rapporteur: Dr Sofia Rydgren Stale (SE), Dr Thomas Schmoch (LU)
CPME Secretariat: Marcin RODZINKA-VERHELLE
Faced with the increasing cross-border threats to health resulting from antimicrobial resistance, CPME looks at the doctor’s role in containing AMR, also in the context of healthcare associated infections, by promoting good practices on the prudent use of antibiotics and providing input to policies. We are partner of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) in the preparation of the ‘European Antibiotic Awareness Day (EAAD)’, marked annually on 18 November.
CPME supports the One Health approach to dealing with AMR and actively collaborates with representatives of veterinary medicine on this issue.
Policy on Antimicrobial Resistance
CPME has updated its policy on antimicrobial resistance (AMR), calling for greater EU action for a deepening crisis which is leaving doctors short of effective treatments for life-threatening infections.
