Health Literacy & Patient Empowerment
CPME Rapporteur: Dr Katrín FJELDSTED (IS)
CPME Secretariat: Mr Markus KUJAWA
Health literacy means the capacity to make sound health decisions in the context of every day life. CPME is a member of the Health Literacy Coalition which contributes to the EU level discussion.
A good patient-doctor relationship is essential in order to achieve optimal results from treatment. One of the prerogatives is patient empowerment and this requires an informed patient. Patient empowerment helps people gain control over their own lives and increases their capacity to act on issues that they themselves define as important. Since 2018, CPME has been a member of the advisory board of the Centre for Empowering Patients and Communities (CEmPaC).
