The international medical community calls for release and acquittal of Prof. Şebnem Korur Fincancı

The World Medical Association and CPME have issued a joint statement calling for a just and speedy resolution of the proceedings against Prof. Şebnem Korur Fincancı, prior to a hearing on 29 December.

Once again, we appeal to you on behalf of millions of physicians in Europe and across the world to ensure a just and speedy resolution of the proceedings against our colleague Prof. Şebnem Korur Fincancı.

Having observed the hearing on 23 December 2022, the lack of evidence for the charges against her have confirmed that the case is unfounded, unlawful and unacceptable. We have also received concerning reports on the conditions of her detention.

We call for the immediate release and acquittal of Prof. Korur Fincancı. We also call on the authorities to respect the human rights and civil liberties Turkish law awards Prof. Korur Fincancı and the Turkish Medical Association.

On 20 December, the World Medical Association, CPME and four European Medical Organisations wrote to Turkish authorities urging the immediate release of Prof. Şebnem Korur Fincancı on behalf of millions of physicians across the world.
