Our member the Hungarian Medical Chamber, the Magyar Orvosi Kamara, has informed us about a concerning development at national level. We understand that a government representative for health has publicly raised doubts as to the rationale for and legitimacy of the Hungarian Medical Chamber as an independent representation of doctors.

National medical associations play a crucial role as the independent and democratic representation of the national medical profession and the expression of professional autonomy. CPME calls on the government to recognise their value for the organisation and delivery of high quality healthcare as well as broader societal benefits, to support their activities and to consult them throughout the policy process. European doctors support their Hungarian colleagues in their action to strengthen their chamber and to find a sustainable structure to continue their work to enable the delivery of the highest quality of healthcare to every patient.
