CPME Secretary General presented to European Parliament public hearing on digital health
She highlighted that the current digital health policy agenda faces many challenges, including trying to match the speed of the technological innovation and perceived competitiveness risks. She presented European doctor's view's on several key policy topics, including:
- CPME is actively engaging in the debates on how to deploy AI in healthcare in a way which is ethical, safe and effective. However, one of the main barriers to deployment is trust and the volatility of the recent policy discussion is not helpful.
- The European Health Data Space has immense potential, and its successful implementation requires ensuring safety, user friendliness and respect of privacy and medical confidentiality.
- CPME warns that the Digital Omnibus on Data may allow easier profiling of vulnerable patients, and unethical reuse of health-related data for commercial or advertising purposes.
We thank Chair MEP Adam Jarubas and the SANT committee for inviting CPME, and European doctors remain committed partners in finding present and future solutions for European digital health.
