CPME Rapporteur on Transparency: Dr Erzsébet PODMANICZKY (HU) and Dr Christiaan KEIJZER
CPME Secretariat: Ms Carole ROUAUD
Collaboration between the medical profession and the healthcare industry is needed at all stages of the development and use of medicinal products and health technologies in order to secure safety of patients and efficacy of therapy. However, the independence of a physician to prescribe certain drugs, use certain technologies and equipment should not be impaired by any commercial factors. Based on the premise that mutual trust between patients and physicians is paramount in the treatment context, the relationships between physicians and commercial companies should take place under an ethical framework that guarantee high ethical standards, the rights of patients and respect the expectations of society.
Adopted policies include:
- CPME guidelines on the transparency of relationships between physicians and the healthcare industry, adopted in November 2014
- Joint Declaration of CPME and Eucomed on cooperation between physicians and the medical technology industry, adopted in June 2007
- Joint Declaration of CPME and EFPIA on the cooperation between the medical profession and the pharmaceutical industry, adopted in April 2005
