Medical research and healthcare currently fail to appropriately take into account the specificities of men and women not only in terms of manifestations of diseases and responses to treatments but also when it comes to the use of and access to healthcare services as well as in the way health systems respond to patient needs. CPME believes that a sex and gender (S&G) sensitive approach is crucial in various areas, from the different research fields – basic, pharmacological and clinical – to medical education and training, as well as disease prevention, to help tackle the challenges faced by our societies.
