Ensuring a clear and safe framework to facilitate doctors’ professional practice across European borders is one of CPME’s primary objectives. EU legislation to this end, in particular the Professional Qualifications Directive 2005/36/EC, must set out transparent and conducive regulations:

  • to safeguard the highest possible quality for medical training
  • to offer clarity for doctors on the procedure and substance of the cross-border recognition of their qualifications,
  • to ensure safety and certainty for patients in all Member States,
  • and lastly to support Member States in the integration of professionals in their healthcare system.

Our activities focus on establishing workable structures to achieve that medical practice across borders contributes to improving healthcare in Europe. Furthermore CPME actively contributes to all discussions around the regulation of the medical profession to maintain a framework which is driven by the objective of safeguarding patient safety and quality of care.
