With a large majority the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe rejected on 27 April 2005 the draft resolution on ‘Assistance for Patients at the End of Life’.

There were 138 votes against, 26 in favour and 5 abstentions to the text with 71 amendments. Even the rapporteur himself, Mr. David Marty, voted against as according to him conformity and patient empowerment requirements were not met.
