European Health and Consumer Communities join forces and call on MEPs to support colour coding food labeling
CPME publication date: Thursday, June 10, 2010On 16 June, MEPS are due to vote a new legislation on food labeling, determining what nutritional information should be displayed on the packaging. The dossier has been the subject of a major lobbying campaign by the food industry, that supports an unclear system, based on GDAs. Since the beginning, CPME has been strongly advocating front of pack colour coding as the single best solution to help consumers make the healthiest food choices. Consumer surveys have shown that this system is by far better and quicker understood by the majority of consumers.
CPME together with BEUC (European Consumers’ Organisation), EHN (European Heart Network), EPHA (European Public Health Alliance) and other health and consumers organizations have joined forces in a common call to MEPs to vote in favor of colour coding.
