Rare Disease Day : 28 February 2010
CPME publication date: Friday, February 26, 2010Rare Disease Day is celebrated annually on the last day of February. 28 February 2010 marks the third Rare Disease Day and the theme of this year, “Bridging Patients and Researchers”, will highlight the EU's commitment to enhance research in the field of rare diseases. As the Commission Communication (2008) and Council recommendation (2009) show, rare diseases has been acknowledged as a public health priority with high EU added value. One of the main objectives of the European strategy is to support translational research through pan-European research infrastructures, European Research Networks of Excellence, as well as development and coordination of national research policy into an EU integrated approach.
